Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin is in some legal trouble after being indicted on a pair of felony charges.
An investigation by the state Attorney General's office and FBI accuses the Republican McLaughlin of falsifying campaign finance filings and misusing campaign finance funds. Officials say that he stole thousands of dollars from his campaign account in 2017 and falsely reported the expense in documents filed with the state Board of Elections. McLaughlin was arraigned Wednesday but has until January 17th to officially enter his plea. McLaughlin could face up to seven years in prison if convicted.
