Amtrak Suspending Service Due to Staffing Issues Caused by COVID-19

Starting Monday, riding the rails to some destinations in New York State is going to be a little bit tougher for local travelers.

That's because Amtrak is suspending some Empire Service and Lake Shore Limited trains due to staffing issued cause by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. An Amtrak spokesperson says while 97 % of employees are vaccinated against the virus, it's continuing to infect conductors, engineers and mechanical crews. The company is rebooking affected customers and says everyone should visit amtrak.com to see if their trip schedule has been changed.
