The number of students and staff members who have tested positive for COVID-19 is continuing to decline in Capital Region schools.

The latest data gathered showed there were roughly 2,700 new infections reported last week, down from 4,200 two weeks ago. Coronavirus cases surged during the first few weeks of winter due to the highly contagious omicron variant. While fewer and kids and adults are getting sick, officials say it's still important for everyone to take the proper precautions to protect themselves and others from germs.
