Some new data shows the number of students and teachers testing positive for COVID-19 is continuing to decline in Capital Region schools.

According to reports, schools reported just 588 cases last week. Between September and Thanksgiving, the weekly average was 570 infections. However, case numbers surged in both December and January due to the rapid spread of the extremely contagious omicron COVID-19 variant. Officials are still urging parents to get their kids vaccinated against the illness to prevent another spike in illnesses.
