With the state budget due on April 1st, Governor Hochul said that the state budget negotiations could include some sort of provision to provide some relief for New Yorkers from the very high gas prices. Many states have already suspended taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel as part of an effort to offset high prices. Lawmakers from both parties have offered proposals on how to cut the cost of gas that has been over four dollars a gallon since the beginning of the month. Prices in New York are almost double what they were on Thanksgiving 2020.
