Albany County Sheriff Won't be Running For State Senate Seat

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple has announced that he won't be running for a seat in the State Senate later this year.

Apple said in a Facebook post he likes his current job, which he has held since 2011, and he believes he can best serve the community by staying with the sheriff's department. Now that Apple has dropped out, Democrat Andrea Smyth and Republican Assemblyman Jake Ashby are the only candidates looking to represent the 43rd State Senate District. Right now, the seat is held by Senator Daphne Jordan who will no longer be residing in the recently redrawn district.

The Sheriff spoke with WGY's Doug Goudie Thursday morning, listen to the interview below.
