New Yorkers who are dealing with a mental health issue will be able to call or text a three-digit number to get the help they need.

It was announced Wednesday that the new 988 suicide and crisis lifeline has been successfully implemented. Residents living in all 62 of the Empire State's counties who contact 988 will be connected to a crisis center. Officials say this lifeline will be able to provide people access to a trained counselor and reduce the use of law enforcement and other safety resources.
