Albany County Executive Dan McCoy says the first case of the monkeypox has been identified in the county.

The infected person has a history of out of state travel and is not believed to have contracted the virus in Albany County. Monkeypox is mostly spread by close contact and exposure to an infected individual's lesions or respiratory droplets. Anyone who develops a sudden rash on any part of their body should call their doctor and avoid contact with others until they can be tested.
