Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand have announced over $6-million in federal funding will be going to fire departments across Upstate New York.

The money is coming from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Assistance to Firefighters Grant. In the Capital Region, departments in Greenwich, Saratoga Springs,Troy, and Schenectady can use these funds to boost training, purchase equipment and also provide firefighters with the support they need to keep themselves and others safe. Both Schumer and Gillibrand say it's essential for firefighters to have every necessary resource available to them when it comes time to respond to an emergency.
