With kids across the Empire State heading back to school over the next several days, the New York State Division of Consumer Protection has issued some tips parents should follow.

The agency recommends parents protect any documents with their child's personal information on it and to ask how after-school programs and sports clubs secure their records. Parents should also discuss internet safety tips with their children. Anyone with questions or concerns can contact the Consumer Assistance Helpline at 1-800-697-1220.
