The full state Board of Regents is expected to vote Tuesday on changes to education guidelines for private schools.

A proposal is calling for private schools to be required to teach classes in English. It would also be mandatory for high school students to study English, math, history, and science. Supporters of these changes believe they'll help raise test scores and improve the quality of education at private institutions, however members of the ultra-Orthodox and Hasidic Jewish communities are against them, saying they'll affect the nature of their schools. If approved, the new regulations would go into effect September 28th, but schools would have until 2025 to start following them.
