Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan has revealed the person that she's appointed to serve as the city's new Public Safety Commissioner.
Sheehan said Tuesday she's selected retired City Court Judge Gary Stiglmeier to fill the position. Stiglmeier is going to be making the final decision involving any discipline within the department that's appealed and he'll also be responsible for putting a series of reforms in place that were suggested by city residents and officials. Stiglmeier will report directly to the mayor to ensure his independence from the police department.
