The Norlite plant in Cohoes is the subject of a lawsuit filed by the offices of the state Attorney General and state Department of Environmental Conservation.

The legal action claims dust that comes from the facility puts the health of people who live in the surrounding area in danger. This week, the DEC served Norlite, which is owned by a company in Indiana, with notices of alleged permit violations. In a statement to the Times Union, Norlite says it has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on dust mitigation in recent months including the installation of berms and wind screens to try and keep contaminants out of the air.
