6.0 Magnitude Earthquake Reported

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake was reported in Turkey on Wednesday (October 16), according to the United States Geological Survey.

The earthquake was centered in Doğanyol at a depth of 10 kilometers (about 6.2 miles). The USGS said it received 54 reports of people having felt the earthquake at the time of publication.

The Turkey earthquake was reported days after a 2.5-magnitude earthquake was reported in South Carolina on Sunday (October 13), according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered in Coronaca at a depth of 18.6 kilometers (about three miles).

Sunday's earthquake was the second to hit Coronaca in a three-day span. A 2.2-magnitude earthquake was reported in the same city last Thursday (October 10) with a 3.0 kilometer (about two miles) depth.

South Carolina has had 18 confirmed earthquakes reported in 2024, which is 10 less than the total for 2023, according to the state Department of Natural Resources via TheState.com.

A 3.4-magnitude earthquake was reported in California last Friday (October 11), according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered in Stovepipe Wells at a depth of 1.4 kilometers (about one mile).

The Stovepipe Wells earthquake struck three days after a 4.3-magnitude earthquake was reported in California last Tuesday (October 8), according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered in Dillon at a depth of 11.2 kilometers (about seven miles).

The Dillon earthquake was reported one day after a 4.1-magnitude earthquake was reported in Montana on Monday (October 7), according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered at a depth of 13.7 kilometers (about 8.5 miles).

The Montana earthquake was reported two days after a 3.7-magnitude earthquake was reported in California on Saturday (October 5), according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered in Petrolia at a depth of 10.0 kilometers (about 6.2 miles).

The Petrolia earthquale was reported two days after a 2.5-magnitude earthquake was reported in Tennessee on Thursday (October 3), according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered at a depth of 9.7 kilometers (about six miles).
