In response to recent violence, the city of Albany is increasing police presence on Lark Street. The decision comes after a shooting incident at Cafe Hollywood, a local establishment, which has since been shut down by the city. Two additional police officers will now patrol the area during nights and weekends.

The Lark Street Business Improvement District (BID) supports the city's decision. "We’re not going to stand for this violence,” said Patrick Noonan, Chairman of the Lark Street BID, in an interview with NEWS10 ABC.

The city is also planning to add more mental health resources to the area. Albany Navigates, a mental health program that supports individuals suffering from addiction, poverty, and more, will provide case management to connect those in need to housing, mental health support, and addiction treatment.

Incoming interim police chief Brendan Cox, who is set to take office on Monday, plans to discuss these issues with local businesses and the police force. "I’m open to ideas, I’m open to thoughts and this has to be a police-community partnership in order to ensure that the community is safe and feels safe,” Cox told NEWS10 ABC.
