An investigation is ongoing into two separate fires in Albany County that resulted in three fatalities. The first fire occurred early Wednesday morning (December 4) on Thompsons Lake Road in Knox. Emergency crews were alerted around 2 a.m. and found the large two-story home fully engulfed in flames. Two people were found dead inside the residence. According to the Times Union, the Albany County Sheriff’s Office and multiple fire departments responded to the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with autopsies scheduled for Thursday (December 5).
Shortly after the Knox fire, another blaze broke out at an apartment building on Broad Street in Waterford. This fire claimed one life and left six others with non-life-threatening injuries. The names of the victims have not been released. The CBS6 Albany reports that investigators from the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control are assisting with the investigations.
Authorities are working to determine the causes of both fires.
