Schenectady High School is set to enhance its security measures by installing metal detectors over the upcoming holiday break. The decision follows a series of violent incidents at the school since the start of the academic year. According to CBS 6 Albany, the school board approved a $618,000 contract with Missecurity for the new weapon detection and screening system during their meeting on December 4.
The metal detectors are designed to alert school resource officers not only to the presence of guns but also to knives and vape pens. This move comes as part of the district's efforts to address safety concerns and prevent further incidents on campus. Students will experience these new safety protocols when they return from their December break.
