The New York State Police (NYSP) will conduct a drone training exercise in Guilderland on Thursday (December 19). The training will take place near the State Police Firearms range on Grant Hill Road, running from noon to 8 p.m. Residents should not be alarmed by the presence of drones in the area, as this is part of a scheduled exercise.

The training comes amid a series of mysterious drone sightings across the eastern United States, including New York, New Jersey, and other Mid-Atlantic regions. Despite these sightings, the NYSP has stated that there is no evidence to suggest any threat to public safety. According to the Daily Gazette, the NYSP Unmanned Aircraft System Detail will host the training with local, county, and state first responder drone pilots. The public is advised not to fly personal drones near the training site.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has acknowledged the increase in drone sightings and assured the public that there is no threat to safety. She stated, "We are coordinating with federal partners including the FBI and DHS to protect New Yorkers." RochesterFirst reports that the FBI has confirmed the drones are not U.S. military property.
