Authorities have determined that the tragic house fire on January 27 in Colonie which claimed the lives of three family members, was accidental. The fire began on the porch of the residence located on Locust Park. The victims were identified as 72-year-old Lynne Lyons, her daughter Katelyn Ryan, 33, and Katelyn's husband, Timothy Ryan, 42.
The Colonie Police Department, along with the Town of Colonie Fire Services, announced on Tuesday (February 4) that there is no evidence of foul play or arson. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. Two other individuals suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene just before 8 p.m. on the night of the fire to find the two-story house engulfed in flames. A woman was reportedly heard shouting for help from an upstairs window.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign was launched by Timothy Ryan's employer, Premiere Transportation, to support the family. As of Tuesday, the campaign had raised approximately $9,700 of its $28,000 goal.
Authorities continue to seek information from the public and have asked anyone with additional details or video surveillance to contact the Colonie Police Investigations Division.
