Albany Man Indicted for Starting Series of Dumpster Fires

A 42-year-old man from Albany named Michaël Vance, has been indicted by an Albany County grand jury for allegedly starting a series of five dumpster fires. One of these fires, set on October 9, 2023, at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Capital Area on Delaware Avenue, caused significant damage by spreading to the building and resulting in over $600,000 in damages.

According to the Albany County District Attorney, Vance faces multiple charges, including one count of criminal mischief in the second degree, three counts of criminal mischief in the third degree, two counts of arson in the fourth degree, and three counts of arson in the fifth degree. His bail has been set at $15,000 cash, $30,000 bond, and $45,000 partially secured bond.

Vance has a long history of arrests, totaling 44 over the past 26 years for various crimes. If convicted on all current charges, he could face a sentence ranging from 7 to 23 years in state prison, as reported by WNYT.
