A Rotterdam man, Patrick Haggerty, is set to appear in court today, facing charges of second-degree murder in the death of his mother, Catherine Haggerty. The 79-year-old was found dead at her home on Cobblestone Court on Sunday (March 16) evening, following a reported stabbing incident. Police arrested 39-year-old Patrick Haggerty at the scene, and he remains in custody at the Schenectady County Jail without bail.

According to authorities, the incident appears to have been the result of a domestic dispute. Rotterdam police were called to the scene at around 7:20 p.m., where they discovered Catherine Haggerty's body. Neighbors described her as a "sweet woman" who had lived in the area for about 15 years and was a former elementary school teacher involved with the local Rosary Society.

The case is still under investigation, with the Rotterdam police being assisted by the State Police forensic unit. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Rotterdam detectives. As the legal proceedings continue, further updates will be provided.
