Schenectady County Public Health Services is hosting free naloxone training sessions on Tuesday (April 8) at the Karen B. Johnson Central Library on Clinton Street. The sessions will be held from noon to 1 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. These events aim to equip residents with the skills to prevent and respond to opioid overdoses.

During the training, participants will learn how to recognize the signs of an overdose, administer naloxone, and take preventive measures. Naloxone, also known by its brand name Narcan, can reverse the effects of opioid overdoses and save lives. Attendees will receive a free naloxone kit and drug test strips upon completing the training.

Schenectady County Public Health Services emphasizes the importance of this training for public-facing professionals, community leaders, and anyone who may encounter individuals at risk of opioid overdose. The training is part of a broader effort to address the ongoing opioid crisis affecting the community.

For those unable to attend in person, an online training option is available. Completing the online course also provides access to a free naloxone kit. For more information, residents can contact Schenectady County Public Health Services.
