The city of Troy is starting its annual hydrant flushing program today (April 28). This essential maintenance is expected to continue until May 6. Residents and businesses may experience temporary water discoloration and reduced water pressure during this period. The city advises avoiding laundry during flushing to prevent staining clothes.

According to the Mayor's Office, the hydrant flushing is crucial for maintaining the city's water distribution system's safety and efficiency. Flushing will occur during normal working hours, except in the downtown business district, where it may happen during off-peak hours to minimize disruptions. Troy Mayor Carmella Mantello emphasized the importance of this work, stating, "While this work may cause some short-term inconvenience, it is a critical part of maintaining the integrity of our water system and ensuring high-quality water for Troy residents and businesses" as reported by NEWS10.

The flushing schedule is subject to change due to weather or other circumstances. Residents are encouraged to check the city's website for updates or contact the Department of Public Utilities at (518) 237-0241 for more information as noted on the city’s official site.
