Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty arrived in Saratoga Springs on Thursday (May 8) to begin preparations for the upcoming Belmont Stakes. The horse, trained by Bill Mott, will be training at the Oklahoma Training Track in Saratoga until the Belmont Stakes, which is scheduled for June 7. Sovereignty, owned by Godolphin and ridden by Junior Alvarado, achieved a surprising victory over Journalism in the Kentucky Derby last weekend.
Sovereignty will not participate in the Preakness Stakes, making him ineligible for the Triple Crown. The last horse to win the Triple Crown was Justify in 2018. The Belmont Stakes will be held at Saratoga Race Course for the second consecutive year due to ongoing renovations at Belmont Park in Elmont. The event is part of a five-day festival of racing from June 4 to June 8.
