New Yorkers Can Vote on Mandatory New License Plates

Gov. Cuomo is launching a vote to select the design for the state's new license plates.

New Yorkers can choose from five proposed designs through September 2nd on the Governor's website along with voting in person at the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse starting tomorrow. The design with the most votes will become the state's official license plate and be available next April, at which time anyone with plates older than 10 years will be required to pay for replacements when they renew their registration. The new plates will come with a $25 fee--on top of the normal registration renewal cost. And if you want to keep the same plate number... that's an additional $20.

You can vote on the plate if you're a New York State resident, 18 years and older. You are limited to one vote only. You can vote here.
