Happy Hour: Local Teen Raises Money for Teen Hurt in Car Crash

One of our long time buddies from the "WGY Radiothon for the Children's Hospital at Albany Med", a miracle kid himself has raised a ton of money for another child.

Our buddy, Gabe Donovan, has a rare genetic condition that causes tumors to grow on nerve tissue. He was getting help from the Center for Disability Services, which is how he met Lilly, a teenager left on a ventilator after a car crash that also took her mother's life. Gabe decided to come to her rescue, selling T-shirts and tote bags at the track this summer featuring an Adirondack lily that he designed with the message:  "Although I cannot write, I still have a story to tell."

Gabe's goal was to raise $16,000 to buy communications devices for Lilly. Well, Gabe kept working and made his $16,000 goal and flew past that, raising $50,000, enough to help Lilly and other kids! To support Gabe's goal, click here.

Gabe is now a sophomore at CBA.

A church in Indiana has pledged to help payoff medical debt for families. The church had a goal of raising $29,000 to cover astronomical medical bills. They partnered with a medical debt company and some other churches and were ultimately able to pay off more than $7 million in medical debt for almost 6,000 families.

For the last 22 years, a man named Travis has been a high school custodian in Alabama. Travis has been driving 20 miles each way to school in a beaten up and unreliable, 25 year old truck. It was damaged in an accident several years ago and he hasn't had the money to fix it. Two students decided to set up a GoFundMe to help him get a new ride. It was in honor of national custodial workers recognition day and they had a goal of $20,000. So far they've raised $13,000 and a local car dealer has offered to match what they raise and help Travis get into a new truck.

Travis says he's grateful to the boys not only for their actions but also for their friendship.
