Holiday Decorating Safety Tips To Follow

-As we start to deck our halls and put up Christmas trees, it’s easy to forget the dangers that exist.

In order to have a safe and drama free holiday, fire officials are reminding us of some simple decorating and tree tips.

  • Keep your live tree hydrated with water daily.
  • Make sure trees don't block an exit.
  • Keep the trees… live or fake… at least three feet away from any heat source like fireplaces, radiators, candles, heat vents or lights.
  • Don’t overload extension cords with strings of holiday lights.
  • Have a working and tested smoke alarm.
  • Don’t use screws, nails, or staples on Christmas light wires.
  • Use the buddy system if hanging lights with a ladder.
  • Use the right extension cord.
  • Don't over load outlets.
