Happy Hour: Saratoga County Tree Farm Sends Trees to Troops

Ambient fireplace and Christmas tree in living room

A Saratoga County tree farm is hoping to make the holidays a little brighter for people serving in the military. Dozens of volunteers at Ellms Family Farm loaded 125 trees onto FedEx trucks, so that they can be delivered to military families around the globe. Chip Ellm's farm is one of 14 across the state that donate their trees and he says the feedback they get from the troops just keeps the effort alive.

This is the 15th season for the Trees for Troops program and more than 200,000 have been donated so far. From Charlton, the trees head to 65 military bases in 17 countries.

For the last four years, 12-year-old Luke Hoag of Hoosick Falls has made it his mission to give back in a big way. He was the recipient of a Make-a-Wish trip to Disney World when he was 3 - after being diagnosed with cancer before he was 2. Luke is hoping to do the same for other kids by encouraging people to write letters to Santa.

Two school buses delivered 80,000+ letters to the Colonie Center Macy's on Friday – which will be mailed to Santa. For each letter, Macy's donates $2 to the Northeast Chapter of Make-a-Wish.

A five year old in Michigan has been in foster care for a while, but he was finally adopted by his foster family. While that's awesome news as it is, what makes it even better, is that the boy's entire kindergarten class showed up in the courtroom to cheer and support him.

He's really well liked in his class and the teacher organized a school field trip for the classmates to come see it. They made signs and sat in the courtroom. Some even got up and told the judge how much they love him and are happy for him.

An 83-year-old man in Texas is finally seeing his lifelong wish come true. His name is Johnny Gohdesen and back in 1963, he wrote a Christmas song called "Christmas is here" that was inspired by his kids. He recorded it and even had 45's made. But, the song never gained any traction. He sings it with his family every year, but has still longed to hear it on the radio.

A couple of weeks ago, a radio station in Houston made his dream come true. And one by one, as word got out, it started playing on more and more stations.
